It was at least 90 and humid in NYC today! Ugh, I was in air conditioning all day and then walked outside. Within 10 minutes I was sweating. Luckily it cooled off later in the night. I saw Pippin and it was AMAZING! The choreography was unreal, my jaw kept dropping! 

Today was pretty exciting, I got to hear from a planning executive, free lance beauty writer, fashion illustrator, and the women behind NYC PRETTY. The planning seminar was really informative in maintaing a successful business and everything that goes into it. Especially how to manage your money. I also really liked hearing from Christine Bibbo Herr from NYC PRETTY because she is a blogger, editor, stylist, fitness expert and tv personality. She has done so many jobs so it was interesting to hear about her jobs! 

Tomorrow we're shopping the stores! Here I come Bergdorfs and Fendi! Just kidding, I can't afford that obviously. Looks like I"ll be admiring but no buying! Honestly I love looking online and going into stores to see the new trends, see the competitions between the stores and what people are buying. By going into H&M to Prada it ultimately gives me inspirations for my own designs and keeps me familiarized with their designs. Which will help me with styling and knowing brands. 

Something I heard today, "You've never been to Starbucks! What?"

"Yes, I have never been to Starbucks!"

My Fantastical Interview with Isabella Rose Taylor!

Yesterday, I had the honor to meet and talk with 13 year old fashion designer Isabella Rose Taylor. Not only is she a fashion designer, she is also an incredible painter. She has been sewing for 5 years and even incorporates her paintings into her clothes! She even got to talk at TEDxHollywood (Ted Talks)! It gets cooler, Isabella will be showcasing her new collection at New York Fashion Week this September! I mean how many 13 year olds get to do that! When she was talking to my class, she kept saying set goals for yourself. I think that is a great lesson for anyone because then you can focus in on certain projects. Isabella has so much drive, which I think is so inspiring to young girls everywhere. Her confidence is effortless! She is so sweet and down to earth. Now is my interview with her.

1. When did you know you wanted to be a fashion designer?

I became a fashion designer rather organically.  When I was 8 years old I was working with mixed media in my artwork and wanted to incorporate fabric and stitching into it so I wanted to learn how to sew.  I asked my parents to sign me up for a sewing camp that summer.  After my first day there, I  fell in love with sewing and designing clothes. I have not stopped since !

2.Who are your biggest inspirations?

My favorite designers are Marc Jacobs, Miuccia Prada, Marcus Wainwright and David Neville from Rag and Bone, of course Karl Lagerfeld, Stella McCartney and so many more. . . .  My biggest artistic inspiration comes from Cy Twombly who I just love so much, Willem de Koonig, and Rothko to name a few.

3. What designer would you want to collaborate the most with? 

I think it would be amazing to collaborate with Marc Jacobs !!

4.In 5 years, where would you like to see her brand? 

In 5 years I would love to be a more global brand, branch out into accessories to complete my looks and be a mentor to other young girls/boys who are trying to pursue their dreams.

5. What advice do you have for young teens who want to be fashion designers?

I would say that you will need “Blood, Sweat & Glitter”.  You need to have passion for fashion (“blood”), you have to work very, very hard and make sacrifices ( “Sweat”) and you have to express yourself, be creative and get your point of view across (“glitter”).  I also would advise getting familiar with the technology in the fashion field.   I believe for our generation this will definitely be the future so it is really, really important to have those skills as well as the basics of sewing and patterning your garments.

6. How did you feel when you got asked to talk at Ted Talks? 

I was really excited to be asked to present at TEDxHollywood but it was very, very short notice so it was a little stressful writing a presentation and then delivering it without having a little more time to prepare.

7.What did you touch on during your Ted Talk? 

The topic of the TED conference was “stories” so I talked a little bit about mine but mostly focused on the importance of dreaming big, setting goals and working towards them as well as putting things out there to the universe !

8.  What are you most excited for, in having a show at New York Fashion Week?

I am most excited to be able to present during NYC Fashion week because it is what every fashion designer dreams of doing and I am really excited to share what I have made with others in hopes to inspire other young designers.

9.Define your style in less than 10 words.

My personal style is street with a touch of girly!

10. What is your favorite song to listen to while painting, sketching, etc.?

This varies a lot but I am a big fan of indie type music as well as some hip hop.   I like Arctic Monkeys, Faded Paper Airplanes, G Eazy - it just varies depending on my mood.

 The past few days have definitely been a whirlwind. I walked the Brooklyn Bridge, I took the subway three times, I had cheeseburger spring rolls and I started my fashion camp. Btw I was up 20 hours yesterday since my flight was at like 6 am. For sure I walked off all my meals from last week in the last two days. Theres an amazing dessert shop in my hotel, we haven't gone yet but I want to! I made a pact to myself I wouldn't go there until camp was over! I have to look in good in my outfits!

Today alone, I learned so much about what it means to be a fashion designer and creating your own brand. I had the honor to meet Isabella Rose Taylor, 13 year old fashion designer. She will have her collection in Nordstrom this august. I also got to hear from Kelsey Zimba couture and ready to wear designer.  I learned it takes a lot of dedication, hours and networking to be a successful designer. I also learned a lot about creating my own brand. Like deciding your audience, colors, price, and name. Overall it was great hear from all these different professionals in the industry!

After camp, we went to Soho. The best shopping. We went to Reformation, Opening Ceremony, Brandy Melville, LF Stores, Kate Spade and Topshop.We also went to this amazing restaurant called Delicatessen on Prince Street. http://delicatessennyc.com We had the best appetizer, cheeseburger spring rolls!!!!! They are known for their comfort food. I had a salmon burger and my friend had mac n' cheese. All in all it's been a tiring two days but it's been wonderful!

I wore this outfit today and it's just the right amount of stylish and comfortable. That's what a lot of people told me at least. Just being modest. BTW, I know these shorts we're in my last outfit but seriously I'm obsessed with them, even if I've had them for two years. Another item I've been obsessed with are the Sam Edelman slides. Literally most comfy shoe ever, worn them all weekend, just great. Slides are back in style so get yourself a pair before they sell out! This MBMJ is my go to bag, I used it so much last year. It's great, it's nylon, spacious, never gets dirty and goes with everything. It's a good deal for what you're getting plus it's designer.

When I recently went to San Francisco, we found this AMAZING store called Azalea in Hayes Valley. (my fave neighborhood in SF)  They sell brands like Obey, Finders Keepers and they sell they're own brand. This cardigan was they're own brand and 70 bucks I believe. It's a great thrown on sweater for the summer or the winter! 

Hopefully everyone's three day weekend was good, I know mine was. Also i saw Obvious Child and it was hilarious. Jenny Slate is a comedy genius. I want to meet her so badly! She is sooo cool! As usual, Tibi is on game with their new collection, and of course keeping up with the latest trends. Tibi can be expensive, but it is so worth it because everything is very well made and lasts forever! I always love Tibi's collections which are structured, lots of warm colors, usually a bunch of matching separates and AMAZING COATS! Seriously, I just want it to be winter so I can wear one of the coats! Also Tibi has a lot of pieces that you can wear with other items and look really awesome! They have statement pieces and subtle pieces. Tibi has a big audience 20ish - 60ish range, most things would great on anyone.

Definitely excited to see the Tibi Pre-Fall 2014 collection in store!

Personally I don't like the reference hipster, but when I saw this sweater I thought it was so funny! When I wore it to school, I got funny looks though. I'm pretty sure people were confused. I think it goes better with shirts under neath like this one I got at American Apparel. It's big and baggy and sooo comfy! The shorts are from over two years ago and they still fit, which is kinda surprising based on how many times I've washed them. On the hanger they look very small but when you put them on, they fit just right! Free People stuff has that feel with a lot of their clothes. I got these converse at an outlet mall in St Louis in the winter. With them, I've collected many compliments. Seriously they are my favorite any season shoe! THEY WERE 35 DOLLARS! Converse outlets are seriously the best, they have a way bigger selection then department stores or even online. Plus they're half the price of normal converse. Another any season item, is this Henri Bendel mini purse, it's great for small things, you can bring it to lunch, errands or the theater! 

(btw my glasses are prescription, I literally can't see anything without them)
